Abstract : The complexity and rapid evolution and expansion of the domain of clinical information make it difficult to develop and maintain a clinical data storage. The design solution that deals with these problems is the Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) model. In this model, the attributes are treated as data recorded in an attribute definition table, so that addition of new types of facts does not require to restructure a database by additional columns. The EAV model is a way of simplifying the physical schema of the database. There are needs to register metadata for understanding data in EAV system. ISO/IEC 11179 is a metadata registry standard to support the identification, definition, registration, classification, management, standardization, and interchange of data elements, and to promote the sharing and exchange of data throughout the international community. Most EAV systems, however, has a domain-dependent metadata format and registry. In this study, we implement a clinical data storage that is composed of conventional relational tables and an EAV table for heterogeneous clinical data, which refers standardized metadata registry based on ISO/IEC 11179 for understanding data in the EAV table.
