Abstract : Tissue Microarray (TMA) techonology allows rapid visualization of molecular targets in thousands of tissue specimens at a time, either at the DNA, RNA or protein level. TMA has been an valuable tool to clinically validate the marker gene from the analysis of DNA microarray. TMA data, however, have difficulty in handling and disseminating to one another as each research has data in different format. Clinical and pathological information applied to TMA analysis also has different types and descriptions. This paper describes the implementation and use of a Tissue Microarray Object Model (TMA-OM), which is a comprehensive tissue microarray data model for representing data relating TMA experiments. The Xperanto-TMA database provides access to a collection of comprehensive descriptions of clinical and histopathological data as well as experimental data sets in tissue microarray experiments. Xperanto-TMA system provides not only the support of effective and systematic management of TMA data but also a useful validation of the TMA-OM.
