Abstract : The purpose of this study was to identify how the Electronic Nursing Record(ENR) system affected the change of a nurses' job patten, satisfaction, and attitudes. This paper was conducted with 388 nurses at a tertiary hospital in Daegu which introduced the ENR system in May, 2005. The result of this study was follow as. The time of nursing record and shift reporting increased. However, the time for other documentation decreased. The communication time with administration department and laboratory department decreased. However, the time for communicating with doctors and nurses increased. The exchange of information with other department was improved, and the ENR was helpful for improving nursing quality. Introducing the ENR system made nurses feel less stress and pay more attention to their work in the hospital. The resistance against the ENR system was reduced more than before introducing the ENR system. Most nurses satisfied with the design, usability, speed, and stability of ENR system. However, there were nurses' concern of security and privacy. In this study, the ENR system enhanced the efficiency of nursing process and the quality of care. However, to establish the successful ENR system, the ENR system should secure and protect privacy for individual patient data.
