Abstract : The current pathologic databases are not very efficient in retrieving necessary information and processing the data for further actions including the final diagnosis. A computerized medical record should relate the patient-specific data with structured medical knowledge in order to provide efficient and high-quality patient care. To describe how to develop a computerized pathological reporting system that facilitates collaborations and cooperation among medical professionals for a better clinical service. The GALEN ontology was used in this study to develop the system for archiving of pathology report including gross descriptions and images. The intranet of anatomical pathology laboratory in medical center dental hospital which connected to the hospital-based electronic medical record system and order communication system. The system has three levels of information modeling subsystems that are connected internally. Specifically, the system has an image record module that is semantically linked to a feature description of the specimen in question. The system can automatically generate input templates linked to highly structural medical knowledge models using RDF schema. The conceptualization represented in the form of an ontology helps both humans and machines to share and reuse information by reducing the ambiguities in the meanings of the different terms used for a given task. An ontology is the result of cooperatively constructing knowledge by a group of people who are involved in the same task regardless of their position. The interoperability problems of the information can be overcome using ontologies.
