Abstract : We have developed a HL7 based workstation for interfacing 3 clinical devices with the hospital information system in Kyungpook Natioal Hospital. Initial purpose is to integrate disparate pulmonary function test measurements in order to assist patient care. Digital clinical analysers are found to produce either HL7 or ASTM messages which are directly translated via HL7 interface engine. However, one analog device requires A/D conversion and old-fashioned data transmission standard. Both digital and analog data are integrated to construct a unified interfacing workstation not only to satisfy data communication requirements in patient care but also to improve efficiency in patient management and routine workflow. Despite interim results, further improvements are highly expected when more clinical devices are added and/or replaced without affecting scalability and stability. keyword : LIS, HL7, device interface, workstation
