Abstract : Abstract: This study was aimed to evaluate usability and the quality of content of web site for the patient with ostomy. Another purpose was to compare the result of korea and that of USA. A search of web sites was conducted using four commonly used search engines(yahoo korea, daum, dreamwiz, naver) in korea and two search engines(yahoo USA, Alta Vista) in USA. The search ward "stoma" and "ostomy" in both languages was entered. Thus, a sample of 34 sites was generated; 6 sites in korea and 28 sites in USA. These web sites was evaluated for usability(authority, attribution, purpose, technical usability, feedback, confidentiality) and quality of content information. The information value score ranging from 1-5 points was assigned to each phrase. Then the results of Korean web sites was compared with that of USA. The average scores of contents quality in Korean web sites were 24.0(SD=±12.87) and 18.61(SD=±11.49) in USA web sites. The most poor information in Korean web sites was how to irrigate the bowel, psychological support behavior and the information when they meet emergency state. In USA, the information about selection and buying ostomy goods was useful but the others aren't. The usability of the web sites for the people with stoma in Korea, was lack of attribution, technical usability, and confidentiality. On the other hand, the usabiliy of the web sites in USA, was lack of authority and feedback. But some web sites of USA(21.4%) can connect an clinical expert like as ET(enterostomal) Nurses, WOCN Nurses. The quality of contents for ostomy web site in Korea was higher than USA. The usability of the web sites in Korea need to improve attribution, technical usability, and confidentiality. In addition to, the information for the people with stoma in Korea should be distributed by an expert like as ET nurses and web site need to have a connection with ET nurses. keyword : ostomy, web site, evaluation, usability, data quality
